UA Arts depends on your financial gifts to meet the cultural needs of our community. As a UA Arts donor you can be assured that you’re contribution is going directly towards the enrichment of Upper Arlington, maintaining the high standards of cultural experience you’ve come to expect of our premiere community.
Background
UA Arts is the rededication of the Upper Arlington Friends of the Arts. The Friends of the Arts was established in the 1970’s as the primary funding stream for the Upper Arlington Cultural Arts Commission. The Cultural Arts Commission is a volunteer group established by the Upper Arlington City Council to deliver high quality cultural events to the city year round. In conjunction with the city’s Arts Manager the Cultural Art Commission brings scheduled events such as Music in the Park along with the nationally recognized annual Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival; as well as many other visual, performance and literary arts programs. The Friends of the Arts, now UA Arts functions as a 501©3 not for profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. All funding is designated for the use of the Upper Arlington Cultural Arts Commission to directly benefit cultural activities in the city of Upper Arlington. The UA Arts board and the Cultural Arts Commission are both staffed by volunteers. Neither organizations operate paid staff.
Identity
The Friends of the Arts rededication happened as a transition from many long time board members made way to several new volunteers. The new identity came from the desire to inject a new energy that comes with a new set of board members. UA Arts is meant to reflect the common symbol of our community, primarily the abbreviated name “UA” along with our primary mission of providing the funding to allow Art to occur in all of its forms. With this came our tagline, “We make art happen” and this is exactly what we hope to convey to you, our donors, that it is with all of us working together that we make art happen.
Community
UA Arts provides several opportunities to both give back to the community as well as build community through the arts. UA Arts sponsors several scholarships to UA High School graduating seniors hoping to continue their studies in the arts. Through funding to the Cultural Arts Commission the Music in the Park series provides an opportunity for residents to come together, enjoy some great music and get to know each other better. The Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival is a premier event in Central Ohio which brings out thousands of residents, visitors and artists. This event contributes both to the financial well being of businesses in Upper Arlington as well as to the standing of the community in Ohio. The diverse permanent collection of visual arts on rotating display or year round display in our parks and at our galleries is a testament to the efforts of this organization and our city’s commitment to providing residents with a higher standard of cultural experience.
